We are very excited to return with this event for 2020 at Lulworth Cove in Dorset, one of the most beautiful and recognisable stretches of coastline in the country, situated right on the South West Coast Path. Canicross friendly.

Starting at the Durdle Door overflow car park, it’s a beautiful place to begin this trail running challenge.

All four distances will take on this stretch of coastline, almost all the way to Weymouth – the 10K runners won’t make it this far, turn off half way along and climb away from the coast to find the higher coastal path before heading back to Lulworth and the finish.

With the rest of the field carrying on to Osminton Mills, the Half Marathon, Marathon and Ultra runners leave the coast path for a while before joining the upper coast path and heading back to Lulworth Cove, enjoying the views from a different direction and a slightly higher view point.

The Half Marathon runners will finish when they arrive back at Lulworth Cove, whereas the Marathon and Ultra runners will carry on past the start/finish line to begin the second leg of their challenge, heading in the other direction along the coast path towards St Alban’s Head and Poole. Here they will follow the coast path through M.O.D land, this is a particularly tough section but well worth it. The Marathon and Ultra turn off the coast path at different times before looping back to Lulworth Cove to the finish line.

This is a stunning venue for a trail running challenge and we advise you to take a camera for the challenge and enjoy the view as you run.

There will be a bespoke medal for all runners at the finish with lots of refreshments and support along the way.

Lulworth Cove Trail Running Challenge

The Route

The 10K runners go out along the coast for stunning view, then climb away from the coast to find the higher coastal path before heading back to Lulworth and the finish.

The half marathon takes runners along a beautiful stretch of coastline, almost all the way to Weymouth before joining the upper coast path and heading back toward Lulworth Cove, enjoying the views from a different direction and a slightly higher view point, then finishing at Lulworth Cove for well deserved refreshments.

The marathon course takes runners along a beautiful stretch of coastline, almost all the way to Weymouth before joining the upper coast path and heading back toward Lulworth Cove. At this point runners head along the stunning coast path toward St Alban's Head and Poole before looping back to Lulworth Cove to the finish line. A tough but rewarding route!

The ultra course takes runners along a beautiful stretch of coastline, almost all the way to Weymouth before joining the upper coast path and heading back toward Lulworth Cove. At this point runners head along the stunning coast path toward St Alban's Head and Poole before looping back to Lulworth Cove to the finish line. A tough but rewarding route!

Checkpoint Info

At our checkpoints you will find water, squash, coke, electrolytes, sweets, crisps, nuts, chocolate, bananas and other carby bits on the marathon and ultra checkpoints . We are trying to reduce the use of plastic so we ask runners to bring reusable cups for coke and squash.

Signage

We use a number of signs during our events. Arrow markers are on a hi-viz reflective red with white arrow to mark the direction to be taken.

We also use striped tape, these are placed after any split to reassure you that you are on the correct trail. We also use them along long stretches where no turn off is required or directional arrows needed.

We advise runners to bring a map of the route with them on event day in case of emergencies. You can download the map and print it and you can download GPX files to your device.
