Starting on Friday 20th September at 06:00, the course unfolds like a story, leading participants through the rugged terrain, ancient woodlands, and meandering paths, with the towering presence of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest peak, standing as a constant companion throughout the journey. Welcome to the Highland 200, an unparalleled test of endurance and adventure set amidst the rugged landscapes of the Scottish Highlands. This 200-kilometer ultra race promises an exhilarating journey through towering peaks, dense forests, and serene lochs, challenging participants to push their limits and embrace the thrill of the unknown.

Route Overview:
Starting in Ellis Brigham’s Fort William Store, runners embark on an epic journey that takes them through some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes. The route winds its way through diverse terrain, including steep ascents, technical descents, and remote trails, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and formidable challenges.

Stage 1: (Checkpoint 1 – 27.63km):
The race kicks off with an adrenaline-fueled ascent up Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest peak. As participants summit this iconic mountain, breathtaking views unfold around them, inspiring every stride. Descending from Ben Nevis, runners navigate the challenging terrain of the Mamore Forest, testing their agility and endurance. At Checkpoint 1 in Kinlochmore, located 27.63 kilometers from the start line, runners refuel before tackling the next leg of the journey.

Stage 2: (Checkpoint 2 – 52.55km):
Leaving Kinlochmore behind, the route continues through remote landscapes, traversing the shores of Loch Eilde Mor and ascending Meall na Cruaidhe. With each step, participants conquer rugged terrain and technical descents, pushing themselves to new heights. Arriving at Checkpoint 2 by Loch Treig, situated 52.55 kilometers from the start line, runners recharge for the challenges ahead.

Stage 3: (Checkpoint 3 – 68.68km):
As the journey progresses, participants navigate through Craiganour Forest and along the shores of Loch Ossian. Climbing Meallach Mhor and Carn Dearg Mor, runners face steep ascents and variable weather conditions, testing their resilience. At Checkpoint 3 near Dalnaspidal Lodge, located 68.68 kilometers from the start line, runners replenish their energy for the final stretch of the race.

The final leg of the race takes participants through Glenfeshie Forest and along the banks of the River Feshie. With determination and grit, runners conquer the last peaks before descending into Aviemore, where the finish line awaits. At Checkpoint 4, situated 85.94 kilometers from the start line, runners prepare for the last push towards victory.

This is a lumpy old run with over 6678 meters (21911 ft) of elevation on this route. Some stunning climbs to be enjoyed and then there is the downhill sections, long and technical in places, fast and flowing in others.

You are allowed support runners to join you on this run.
Support runners can not join in until checkpoint 1.
Support runners must not continue after checkpoint 9.
Only 1 support runner is allowed to join you on a section.
Crews are allowed to visit their runner as often as they can along the route.
Support runners can carry extra food and gear, they can not carry the runners kit on any stretch for any amount of time.

Number & Timing Chip

Please make a note of your registration time for the distance you selected and make sure you arrive giving yourself enough time to register.

Please also make a note of your briefing time and ensure you attend the briefing.

Bibs and timing chips are collected on the day, during the registration period. Both the number and the timing chip have to be worn at all times during the event.

Please note for events in the Lake District and Snowdonia the Ultra Marathon and Marathon runners also receive a GPS tracker as part of the entry fee.

Signage

We pride ourselves in laying brilliant and easy to follow routes. We use arrow markers that are red with white arrow to mark the direction to be taken.

We also have split markers for all routes -'Ultra Marathon Only', 'Marathon Only', 'Half Marathon Only', '10-16k Only'.

The GPX file of the route is part of your mandatory kit list. This can be download from the website and should be downloaded to your devices.

Self Navigation runs (Dartmoor 100k Only), no signage will be used. Way marks on the national pathways will show the way, your GPXS File will be your navigation tool..
